Bump Day!
A baby bump is a happy sight for me. It brings to mind the expectation of a new life. On the other hand it may also mean constantly having to go pee, unable to find a comfortable way to sleep, back pain and, in my case, gestational diabetes. But even with all the discomfort it may bring, women still get pregnant and, by the grace of God, give birth.
Today is Bump Day. The sight that makes me smile is also a reminder that not all who carry a baby bump may not be getting the prenatal care they need. This article from the Scary Mommy blog, gave startling statistics that just seems improbable given that we are living in the 21st century with all the benefits of medical technology (like 800 mothers die every day from complications from pregnancy and delivery).
This makes me thankful that my baby bumps transitioned to two healthy boys who bring joy to our lives. But this also makes me sad for the moms who went through the heartbreak of miscarriage, death of a child or suffered death instead of welcoming new life. To them, I send virtual hugs.
If you want to send more that a virtual hug, bumpday.org accepts donations. A purchase of a Toms bag give the gift of safe birth to someone in need. There are many more ways to help and sharing your bump is a way to bring awareness to this cause. Post your bump!
